Eyeglasses Q & A

How do I choose the right eyeglass frames?

At Midway Optometry, Our doctors and their team of experienced professionals help you select the frames that work best with your vision needs, lifestyle, and facial features. When choosing frames, you should consider your face shape and select frames that complement your natural features.

Which glasses are best for different face shapes?

The following guidelines are a good place to start when searching for the best frames.

Square, angular face

Oval or round glasses balance and soften your natural facial angles. Choose frames more horizontally proportioned than large and vertical. Avoid boxy frames that accentuate your angular features.

Round face

Square or rectangular eyeglass frames balance your round features, making your face look slimmer. Avoid rimless, round, or smaller frames.

Oval face

Select frames that have a strong bridge (across your nose) and are wider across your eyebrows to balance an oval face. Diamond-shaped or rectangular frames may be complementary, too. Avoid extra-large frames that vertically cover too much of your face.

Diamond face

Balance high cheekbones and a narrow forehead and chin with frames that sweep upward, like cat-eye glasses or oval-shaped frames. Avoid narrow, boxy frames that make delicate features appear even narrower, rather than complementing them with curves.

Heart-shaped face

Counterbalance a narrow chin and wider forehead by selecting eyeglass frames wider at the bottom, such as aviator, butterfly, or low-triangle styles. Rimless frames work well with heart-shaped faces, too. Avoid dark-colored frames that accentuate your forehead.

What are the best eyeglass frames for my skin tone and hair color?

Additional factors to consider are your skin tone, hair color, and eye color, so you can select frames that enhance these natural features rather than compete with them.

For example, if you have an overall warm tone about your face, eyes, and hair, you might select frames that are caramel, khaki, copper, or red. Cooler tones work well with black, blue, gray, magenta, or dark tortoise.
